Once the site of a Tanaina Indian village and later in the middle of a gold rush, Talkeetna (named for the "River of Plenty") got a big boost when the Alaska Railroad established a construction camp at the river junction early in the 20th century. Alyeska Resort is Alaska's premier year-round destination resort and largest ski area. With an average annual snowfall of over 700 inches, non-existent lift lines, diverse terrain, and unparalleled views, Alyeska has something for everyone! Nestled at the base of majestic Mount Alyeska is the 307-room Alyeska Prince Hotel, Alaska's only AAA four-diamond property. Conveniently located at the hotel, you will find restaurants and lounges, a fitness center, rental and repair shops, ticket windows, and distinctive sports and gift shops. The Alyeska Tram and ski slopes are only steps away, making this a true ski-in/ski-out resort. Alyeska boasts 9 lifts; 2,500 feet of vertical fun; a base elevation of 250 feet above sea level which means plenty of oxygen; 2,000 vertical feet of night lighting; and more daylight hours than any other U.S. ski area beginning in mid-February. Stretching over 90 miles long and covering over 1,350 square miles in area, Hubbard Glacier is the largest tidewater glacier in North America. It is also one of the most impressive, a 300-foot wall of ice rising sheer and jagged from the ocean. You may hear the rumble and see the monumental splash as the glacier severs into great ice chunks, known as "calves."

Humpback whales feed in Icy Strait above North Chichagof Island, an important travel corridor for many marine mammals, including federally threatened Steller's sea lions. The area's coastal marshes and mudflats are important as resting areas for shorebirds and waterfowl and provide spring-feeding areas for brown bears. Marbled murrelets feed in large numbers within the waters of Icy Strait and nest in the island's coastal old-growth forest.

From the airport, your transfer (included) brings you to the hotel where your Adventure Specialist welcomes you to Alaska. Then Anchorage is yours to discover. With lively nightlife, an eclectic dining scene and miles of urban trails, there's much to explore on a sunny summer night. Overnight at the Anchorage Marriott. *Alaska Cruisetour arrival times are tentative. The tour component of your escorted Cruisetour vacation is comprised of tour guide escort, included experiences, lodging and transportation as described. Optional excursions are not included. Day 2 Anchorage/Talkeetna

The day begins with the scenic rail journey riding the glass-domed cars of the Wilderness Express® to Talkeetna, the funkiest small town in Alaska. From 11:00 a.m., the day is free for your style of adventure. Talk to your Adventure Specialist about personalized outdoor options such as ziplining and flightseeing (additional fees apply). Close to your lodge, Talkeetna's historic main street is home to lively brew pubs, roadhouse restaurants, cozy cafes and unique shops. Overnight at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge.

Day 3 Talkeetna/Denali

There's time to enjoy more of the Talkeetna's stunning natural setting before your deluxe motor coach departs for Denali. From 4:00 p.m., Denali is yours to discover. Walk the trails of your lodge's 20-acre property, or choose an optional activity, like visiting the Husky Homestead or river rafting (additional fees apply). Overnight at Denali Park Village.

Day 4 Denali

Venture deep in the park today, scouting for native wildlife on the Denali Natural History Tour. After the tour, your time is your own. Check out the exhibits at the museum-like visitor center, or stroll the nearby walking trails. Overnight at Denali Park Village.

Day 5 Denali/Anchorage/Alyeska (Girdwood)

Get a taste of the big city during a midday stop in downtown before continuing onto Alyeska. Admire the waters of the Turnagain Arm as you enter the Chugach Valley before the scenic drive to Girdwood, at the base of Mount Alyeska. From 4:00 p.m., this scenic resort area is yours to enjoy. Take a stroll along the forest trail, or indulge in the resort’s amenities. Overnight at Hotel Alyeska.

Day 6 Alyeska (Girdwood)/Seward
