Newhall Mains is a careful re-invention of the traditional “Mains” building — a Scottish term historically used to refer to the main buildings of a farm or working estate. Founded in 2020 by Euan Ramsay and his family, the 18th century property which, until recently, was classified 'at risk', has been lovingly restored into a boutique hotel. Designed by London-based Kelling Designs and refurbished by an extensive team of Highland-based craftsmen, Newhall Mains is a sublime retreat for families, adventurers or those simply looking for a quieter pace of life.

Previously derelict, the buildings’ exteriors have been faithfully restored using traditional materials: stone, lime render, lead and slate. Inside, the classic quadrangular layout has been re-interpreted to accommodate the 21st century traveler; underfloor heating, en-suite bathrooms, bespoke furniture and individually crafted fabrics. All the accommodation is individually designed & decorated, incorporating an eclectic yet functional twist on Highland hospitality. Whether it be hand painted bathrooms, bespoke furniture or patterned headboards each room has a clear tone of voice. The Divine Suite is the most romantic room at the property. The master bedroom features a freestanding bathtub and an adjacent Louis XIV style dressing room with a chaise lounge. Richly decorated with antique furnishings and floral wallpaper it is the sublime spot for a special occasion.

The Charming Family Cottage is a separate building and features a generous open plan living area and a fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom boasts a free-standing bathtub, as well as an en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom, also en-suite, is far enough down the hall that it is perfect for extra guests or children and can be made up as either a twin or a king (upon request).

- Grand Family Cottage
Red Gates is a separate building with three bedrooms (two queen bedrooms and one twin bedded bedroom) and enjoys idyllic views of Jacob sheep. Originally built in the 18th century as the Coach house for Newhall Mains, this spacious home is beautifully decorated to create a contemporary and comfortable space. Red Gates is the fully equipped sanctuary for your Highland holiday and welcomes those with dogs.
