Things to Pack for a Cruise

As you and family inch closer to the embarkation day for your well-deserved cruise, there are some essentials which you should pack to ensure a smooth and memorable sailing. Here’s a list of a items that I always include for every cruise sailing:

USB and USB-C cord extensions

Bring both USB and USB-C cables to keep devices powered throughout the cruise.

International Power Plugs & Cables

As most cruise ships are typically built in regions that conform to power plug standards that are not of the North American variety, chances are, your options to utilize a North American power plug on most cruises will always be slim. To override this inconvenience, be sure to pack a power plug adapter which also includes integrated USB & USB-C ports.

Of particular note: Do not pack a power strip as it will be confiscated during security luggage screening, or during daily housekeeping maintenance of your stateroom or suite (if its plugged in during stateroom maintenance, cabin stewards are trained to remove such prohibited items and provide them to security who will be return such items to you at the end of your cruise vacation).

      Hand Sanitizer

One of the most important items that I pack are several travel-sized & refillable bottles of hand sanitizer. While most cruise lines have hand sanitizing stations throughout their ships and at entry areas of dining venues, some fellow cruisers may not be as mindful with such use, so you’ll need to be proactive - especially at buffets. After selecting some tasty delights and/or moving a chair at your table to take a seat, it’s best to utilize hand sanitizer before partaking your meal to eliminate the potential of hand to mouth bacterial transmissions.

        Muscle Cramp Relief Foam

I have come across numerous individuals that find themselves experiencing muscle cramps as they cruise. Most of the time, muscle cramps while sailing comes from physical exertion that your body may not be accustomed to, such as: Walking the expansiveness of a cruise ship (from level to level), experiencing port side adventures that require more physical exertion than anticipated, aggressively attempting to get physically fit while utilizing the onboard fitness center, etc. Muscle cramp relief foams provides immediate relief, especially when the cramping occurs at night and abruptly wakes you up from a sound sleep.

Pack essentials in a lightweight backpack for a prepared cruise adventure.

          Lightweight Backpack

If you’re like me, I typically bring along my laptop computer or tablet in a padded backpack when I travel for work or pleasure. However, when I’m on excursions, I utilize a separate backpack that is lighter and thinner which is packed and stored within my checked luggage until I need it. The contents of the backpack depends on the activity, but I usually include a refillable water bottle (with cold water), first aid kit, sunblock, and hand sanitizer.

Couple watching a sunrise aboard a cruise ship

Elevate your cruise style by packing business casual attire for special dining occasions.

            Business Casual Wear

Most modern cruise sailings are largely casual when it comes to attire. However, I’ve experienced instances where specialty dining opportunities require you to be a bit more “kitted up.” So be sure to pack a couple of business casual outfits for such occasions.

                Magnetic Hooks

This might come as a complete surprise: The walls of staterooms and suites are made of metal. Since cruise stateroom space is typically minimalist, utilizing magnetic hooks on the stateroom walls will help you gain more storage and organizational space for your caps, coats, etc.
