Just outside downtown, Mādahòkì Farm offers one of the most meaningful cultural experiences in the region. This Indigenous-owned space invites visitors to engage with Anishinabe Algonquin traditions through seasonal events, workshops, and hands-on activities.

From meeting rare Ojibwe Spirit Horses to browsing handcrafted goods in the on-site marketplace, it’s an immersive way to connect with Canada’s living Indigenous culture-far beyond a typical sightseeing stop.

Ottawa’s cultural institutions are anything but static. The Canadian Museum of History stands out for both its striking architecture and its powerful storytelling, including one of the world’s largest collections of totem poles.

Take a short 5-minute drive across the Ottawa River - or enjoy a scenic walk via the bridge from Downtown - and you will arrive at the Canadian Museum of History. For live performance, the National Arts Centre is the city’s creative heartbeat. From orchestral performances to Indigenous theatre, the programming is diverse, contemporary and consistently world-class.

Whilst Ottawa’s iconic Parliament Buildings undergo a long-term restoration (targeted for completion between 2030 and 2031), do as I did and dive into Canada’s political story through immersive digital exhibits at nearby Parliament: The Virtual Experience. Expect interactive storytelling and augmented reality elements that make this a surprisingly engaging stop - even for those who don’t typically seek out civic attractions.
An Elevated Spa Day
A short drive into neighboring Quebec leads to Nordik Spa-Nature - the largest spa of its kind in North America. Set within a forested landscape, it’s designed around the Scandinavian hot-cold-rest cycle, with thermal pools, saunas, and steam rooms.

For a standout experience, the Kalla saltwater pool mimics the buoyancy of the Dead Sea, offering a uniquely calming feeling worlds away from the city.
